LASIK Procedure Overview

Laser assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is the most advanced of approved refractive surgical techniques. Since approval by the FDA, LASIK has become one of the fastest growing medical procedures in the nation, and is the most commonly performed procedure.

LASIK begins with the eye being anesthetized with drops. The surgery, conducted on an outpatient basis in a laser center, is painless and lasts only about 30 minutes. Most patients are able to return to work the next day.

A flap is made in the outer layer of the cornea with a precision mechanical device, and then folded back to expose the underlying tissue. Using a cool excimer laser, the cornea is reshaped painlessly. The flap is replaced and heals quickly, requiring no stitches.

LASIK surgery provides the immediate recovery of vision, but like all surgery has some risk, such as flap irregularities and astigmatism. But, national results indicate that 98% of all patients’ vision improved to 20/40 or better, and 80% were corrected to 20/20 or better without glasses or contacts. There were a significant number of patients whose vision improved to better than 20/20 after the procedure, to as good as 20/15 and 20/16.

Patients notice improved vision immediately and normally can return to work the next day.

In the words of a satisfied patient:

"My vision is perfect now and I am thankful every day that I don’t have to put contacts in my eyes."

Now Ladarvision Custom LASIK is available too.

With the FDA approval of wavefront-guided technology, it is now possible to detect and correct previously undetectable visual disorders. That means you can have truly customized laser vision diagnosis and treatment to give you the best vision possible.

Our new Ladarvision Custom LASIK procedure improves the conventional excimer laser system by employing wavefront diagnostic technology to precisely map and then precisely guide an excimer laser during surgery. The diagnostic measurement is up to 25 times more accurate than standard methods, and the treatment results in not just seeing more, but seeing more clearly and more sharply.

The advantage of Ladarvision Custom LASIK is that wavefront technology measures your total focusing errors, imperfections not even detectable before. The wavefront system can correct for glare, shadows, halos and other visual distortions.
